Zaha Hadid Madrid,Zaha Hadid Stonewall, Zaha Hadid Cairo Expo, Zaha Hadid Aura Sculptute, Zaha Hadid Vienna
Zaha Hadid the London Based Architect has a Defined style of her own and it is good to see that even England is slowly being converted by her charm. Please visit our last blog post on modern facades and walls
1 Zara Hadid Madrid
We have all taken a tin of soft drink and crushed it on one side before throwing it in the bin. this building sort of explores the crushing process and contrasts it. In a way we have seen stadia being built like this but this houses the court of Justice buildings.
2) Zaha Hadid Pavilion
The Pavilion was supposed to tour different cities around the world, I am a fan of the shell like structure, she visits her favourite colour white and brings out the slickness of it. One review described the entrance as curvilinear, it is really good.
3) Zaha Hadid Stonewalls Egypt
The Stonewalls are really out of the box, they might not be out of place on planet Mars, the building give the impression of the letter Y and the contrast with the winged glass on the left side. Together they give a futuristic feel, I can see a science fiction movie asking to be shot in this location.
3) Zaha Hadid Cairo Expo City
I guess with the firm getting a number of commissions from the Middle easst, they have the luxury of creating futuristic villages rather than individual masterpieces. look at how she has managed to transfere the cavities from the two structures and trafered them to the sidewalks, in fact the air holes are the unifying theme of the whole Cairo Expo Complex.
The asymetrical structures of the towers hold command more attention than the usual sky scraper just because we have seen tall buildings before and it adds colour to the whole show.
4 Zaha Hadid Aura Sculpture
Zaha Hadid Aura, it is a fascinating piece of sculpture because it shows her style in a miniature form, look at the colour and the slick feel it vibrates and look at the curves it generates . Each angle gives you a different perspective than you have seen before.
5 Zaha Hadid Architects Hoxton
I know that Hoxton is now a very fashionable with the artistic crowd, but this is supposed to be the first approved building in Britain by Zaha Hadid , okay she has also drafted the Olympic swimming arena for 2012, but is it strange that Britain has commissioned her work. I guess she at odds with the British taste in building given the conservative nature of Britain and the planning laws.
Soho Building in China
Should we get worried when the Chinese government starts getting good architecture? I really think we should for the simple reason that buildings can be used to make political statements and people like Hitler invested a lot in fascistic buildings. I like Communism when it was grim and grimmy and not appealing.
6 Zaha Hadid St Anthony’s College Oxford
Was it always doomed? Zaha Hadid is the last person you associate with Oxford and its dreaming spires. Places like oxford want to harp back to the times and the Rosicrucian nature of England rather than be forward looking. In a way she did not compromise in the proposed extension and an excuse was found to scrap the plans. I guess now she is a celebrity they will find ways to approve more of her work but despite her London location, she is still peripheral and really Oxford is not the place to have anything contemporary.
Vienna airport building, it is slightyl tilted to forward but over all it is a more conventional design than the usual. It has a feeling of a ship rather than an airport.
7 Opus Building Dubai
8 Zaha Hadid Guggeinheim Hermitage Museum Lithuania
Finally we feature a Dubai post, In all the excitement about Dubai, this creation is somewhat understated but given the cavity in the middle of it, it has out of this world feeling, have you noticed the subtle curve in the height of the building.
