These are classic! Too funny that our marketing forefathers thought these creative executions were brilliant – and that the public actually responded. It’s amazing how our cultural sensibilities have evolved, and it takes a retrospective like this to help us realize just how much.
I blogged about this subject a while back, and have several of these retro ads mounted on my walls at home: http://www.dontdrinkthekoolaidblog.com/my-grandma-influenced-career/
Thanks for the Friday laugh!

Whoever did the commentary needs to do a little research so they don't sound stupid. Connection between goiter and salt? Come on. Seriously? Do you really not know that Iodine was added to salt to prevent goiter? That's why it's "iodized"…make sense now?
As far as the iodized salt goes, it really does prevent goiters. This isn't just some old timey medical myth. Lack of iodine (which is added to most salt these days) used to be a primary cause of goiters, and still is in less developed parts of the world.r nr nAs for "Mrs. Mosquito:" the advertisement is just being scientifically accurate. Male mosquitoes don't bite. Only the females feed on blood.
Ad 19 – not a sexist ad, only female mosquitos suck blood (so spread malaria). Strange but true…
"Is this a sexiest ad, why is mrs mosquito distributing malaria?" Actually, only female mosquitoes bite, so it does make sense. Unless you really did mean "sexiest", not "sexist"
The add for salt. It's iodized salt, meaning iodine has been added. Lack of iodine in one's diet will cause goiters.
Mrs. Mosquito is delivering it because male mosquitoes don't bite people. XD
for #19 – only female mosquitoes transmit malaria to humans
Dear Author
Wikipedia is your friend
Regarding article 15,
“Iodised salt is used to prevent and remedy iodine deficiency. Worldwide, iodine deficiency affects about two billion people and is the leading preventable cause of mental retardation.[1] It also causes thyroid gland problems, specifically endemic goiter.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_iodised_salt
Regarding article 19
No sexism here. Only female mosquitos suck blood. At least that’s what they taught us in the elementary school. Wikipedia quotation
“Males live for about a week, feeding on nectar and other sources of sugar. Females will also feed on sugar sources for energy but usually require a blood meal for the development of eggs. ”

Have fun
Don't only female mosquitoes bite?
Mrs.Mosquito :: female mosquito's are the only ones that suck blood, and, hence, are the only ones that transmit malaria.
I'm sure BP (Q8 Oil), Chevron (ChevronTexaco), ExxonMobil, and Royal Dutch Shell will be amused to find out they're "one company".
do you know if copies of these adds can be purchased anywhere.r nThanks
